Your Personal Mission

Franklin Covey has proven to be an asset to all businesses and professionals alike. Rather you have read his books, participate in his online community or use his planning systems, you would agree that they all have one thing in common and that is forcing you to think about yourself. Harder than it sounds. Have you ever just thought long and hard about what it is you really want and what you believe in or stand for? How about beyond that, what you want from your future and how you really plan on getting there? Yes of course, we all have goals, but do we really break those goals down into sub-goals, that with out the completion of those, your main goal is less likely to be fulfilled? Franklin Covey teaches you just that.

Here at Harmonix Technologies, we believe that you must create a personal mission statement that you evaluate often. Here are some questions from the Franklin Covey website to get you thinking:

On July 11th, Jack Vigil was invited to speak at the Kiwanis Club of New Mexico. To say it was a great honor would be an understatement.

It is over 92 years of philanthropy. Members of this exclusive club all share a common goal. Charitable contributions to local causes in the form of doing! Kiwanis of Albuquerque focuses mainly on the children in our community by providing scholarships and schools supplies, food, clothing and shelter to those in need and above all else love.

Jack gave a great speech on the importance of giving back and representing your community especially our community here in Albuquerque and in New Mexico!

One of the main points of Jack's speech was that with great success comes great responsibility. Jack has always prided himself on being involved, encouraging others to do their best and be the best they can be, take every opportunity and treat it as if it's the last opportunity you will ever be fortunate enough to be given. Most importantly, to protect those who need protection, rather that be children, elders or those seemingly weaker than yourself.

During Jack's childhood, his Mother was a foster Mother who was committed to children that did not have homes, both of her parents were orphans in the early 1900s, so it was extremely important for her to offer little ones, as she refers to them, a loving home. She did so for many years and with that experience, Jack has gained a love for helping children just as his Mother was.

The Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque and many other great organizations help you to get involved in your community!

Mi Comunidad of New Mexico sponsored by Harmonix Technologies, has worked the last couple of years building a foundation that can help the established local charities receive recognition and support.

El Ranchito de los Niños

This was a glorious Easter weekend for Harmonix Technologies! On Good Friday we were blessed as a team to be able to spend the day with the children of El Ranchito de los Niños! This Children's home is located in Los Lunas, NM on a farm style ranch that provides a home designed to keep siblings together until they are reunited with their parents one day if possible. This foundation is 100% non-profit and depends solely on the charitable actions of others to fund and support the children. Currently, the home has 10 children but can hold up to 16 children ages 0-18. The home has had a total of 21 children since opening 10 years ago. Sister Frances is one of the house Mother's that we were pleased to meet and spend time with as well.

On Good Friday, our Team journeyed to the Children's home bearing gifts as each member of the HMX Team played secret santa along with Jack T. Vigil, contributing to each members contributions. As a whole we were able to provide 10 Easter Bags filled with the kids personal favorites, from NFL Football team jerseys to Barbie Dolls, nail polishes and a very nice purse for the oldest girl in the group. The Harmonix Team really came together to provide support and assistance on this very special Easter holiday. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by staff and eagerly presented the children with tons of cheese pizza and soda to jump start the day!

After a nice meet and greet session of food and laughter, Rachelle quickly began the Easter egg coloring activity with a group of children as everyone else started playing sports from catch to frisbee to an eventual basketball tournament with the children and the staff (who were in need of some TLC as well).

The day was beautiful, the sun the shining and the animals on the farm were a sight to see; from Jack the horse to the bunny named Floppy, to the goats that were anxiously waiting for the mule to cleverly open the gate to not only "free" the goats but to eat their hay.

The day was truly remarkable and life changing on so many levels. It was a bonding experience for the Team, it was a spiritual awakening for our souls and it most importantly it was a new relationship with the children of El Ranchito de los Niños.

On Easter Sunday, Brianne, Saul and Jack made a second trip to the ranch to witness all 10 of the kids opening their Easter gifts from Team Harmonix. The kids greeted us with a warm welcome, amazingly accepting us in their lives as if we had been apart of their world all along. After watching the children open their gifts, with ear-to-ear smiles it was apparent that we were involved with something much greater than ourselves. I watched as one of the girls opened and read a card from Immanuel, the look in her eyes was literally priceless.

As we pulled ourselves together for departure, the youngest girl in the group, presented us all with gifts that were special items that she had owned but wanted us to have, one being a yellow and pink bunny made of oven-baked clay.

To sum it all up, it was just PERFECT!

Participation is Key!

I received an email from an HMX team member, Michael Malek, that requested an Harmonix newsletter of sorts that would keep everyone abreast of what is going on within the company.

I was happy to have a team member interested in the current events of the organization, I was happy to oblige his request.

Over the past four years I have implemented newsletters and just a year ago this blog, in hopes of stirring up some team initiative and participation. I lost hope after countless hours of writing tips and articles that would benefit the team or any professional. But Michael, made me realize that all it takes is one person to become interested in the day-to-day happenings for it to be worth writing about.

With that said, I anticipate interaction and team work on behalf of the Harmonix Blog. I will write all day long about Harmonix if someone is reading, commenting and essentially contributing.

Thanks for the interest and let's make The Harmonix Blog worth while!

A Simple Thank You - ITT Technical Institute

I would like to thank ITT Technical Institute of Albuquerque NM for allowing me to give a commencement speech at your June graduation ceremony. It was a special day for me, not only because I was able to stand before eager graduates as they pondered every word spoken on that important day and thought how they would apply such advice to their futures - but because I was able to welcome a new member of Team Harmonix into the organization. A student and now graduate so bright that he won every single award offered by the institution. Michael Malek. As Harmonix Technologies embarks on our 5th anniversary in business this July, I can only dream that the team I am building will outlast me in the organization. That Harmonix Technologies will join the likes of HP, Sony, American Express and even Wal-Mart someday- as we are on the road to being a true visionary company. But we can only do so, with great people believing in the dream - and I believe we are on the right path. ITT Technical Institute has graduated great leaders of tomorrow, I have hired several of them. The style of education provided for the already inquiring mind only adds fuel to the flame of eagerness to learn and succeed in the field of technology. I have enjoyed and look forward to being the largest employer of ITT Tech graduates in Albuquerque NM.

Winning to Lose

This weekend the New Mexico Lobos Men's Basketball Team almost made history by making it into the Sweet 16 of March Madness. They had an amazing run and although I am an Aggie, it is great to see New Mexico Sports exceeding everyone's expections. It had me thinking about the concept of winning and losing. What defines being a winner and what does it mean to lose. Well in competitive sports the winner is the last one standing. But in business, winning is synonymous with losing - meaning, you can win on a regular basis only to lose in the end. It is not as tragic as it might sound, every win and every loss is a learning experience - sometimes you learn how not to make the same mistakes twice but mostly you just learn how to be a good sport and realize that the art of winning is to learn how to accept loss. Now, I am not sure I believe that ol' saying "What goes up, must come down" but I do acknowledge that there is truth to that thought process. Being the winner in the end really means learning along the way and even if you lose, as long as you have grown you are still a winner. Of course, to actually be the last one standing is victorious.

When Duty Calls

It is important to remember that having a professional career is a 24/7 responsibility in America. Rather you're working or not, you're probably thinking about work or analyzing something your customer said or problem solving an issue from yesterday that is waiting for you tomorrow. Regardless, if you're thinking about work and ways to improve your professional life you're on the right track to professional success.

Have you ever had a bright idea in the middle of the night?

Everyone asks me how I have the energy to go, go and go some more...am I super human? I have spent a lot of time thinking about that type of question. Am I different than anyone else? Is it because I own the company or that I am the President and CEO? But my answer is always a strong NO. I have energy to continue on because when duty calls, I always answer - no matter what. The energy comes from an inner strength to achieve.

I observe my team and can easily see those who are true professionals and those who are not sure what the meaning of a successful professional career really entails. No it's not about money at all - it's about something much better than that and yes of course it takes money to eat and it takes food to live and so on. But success is knowing that you're creating, building, growing, improving. It's self empowerment. Ideas and creativity. Success is being able to answer when duty calls. It is a privilege to have a ringing phone.
